About this version

The README calls this a public alpha and lists crashes, rendering/audio issues and possible desyncs. Wiimmfi support is described as tentative, so online functionality is not treated as stable.

Metroid Prime Hunters

A DS shooter with PC aiming

MetroidPrimeHuntersRecomp makes the USA revision-0 game a native desktop target, with Prime-style mouse and keyboard controls enabled by default. The core actions remain distinctive: switch between firing and scanning, select subweapons and use morph-ball movement. Translating those actions away from the original stylus layout is one of the port’s main attractions.

WASD moves, the mouse aims, Space jumps and Left Ctrl enters morph ball. C changes to the scan visor; left and right mouse buttons handle firing and scan-fire. Number keys select subweapons, while Tab supplies a virtual stylus. Remappable gamepad bindings provide another route without removing touchscreen-style interaction entirely.

Campaign progress and experimental matches

The project remains a public alpha. Recent development covers all 66 campaign rooms and additional final-boss paths, but the maintainer explicitly distinguishes compiled room coverage from testing every encounter and action. Crashes, hangs, graphical errors and save problems are still possible.

Wiimmfi testing has reached an actual match between separate players, yet connection stability and desyncs remain experimental. Local Multi-Card play has only been validated between two instances on one machine. Choose this for trying the evolving native controls and renderer, not for a guaranteed online session with friends.

Use the exact cartridge revision

The required ROM is USA revision 0, game code AMHE, 64 MiB. Other revisions are rejected. Put your own dump beside the Windows executable or Linux AppImage and launch the package. The default FreeBIOS and generated-firmware route avoids requiring separate retail DS firmware dumps.

Dynamic widescreen is the default, with fixed aspect choices available. Optional HD Rendering raises the 3D resolution while the 2D layers stay native. Start with default resolution, then increase it if your GPU has room. Keep save backups during alpha testing; a successful boot or smooth early area does not establish a whole campaign’s reliability.
