The first Tomb Raider sends Lara Croft after the Scion, with running, jumping, swimming and climbing central to the journey. Its spaces combine traversal, puzzles and combat, so observing the room and judging a route are as important as finding an enemy. That original approach provides the context for TRX’s work across the first three games.
TRX runs Tomb Raider I, II and III and compatible custom levels while respecting the distinct mechanics of each original engine. The creators report all three supported games playable from start to finish. Tomb Raider IV is still a development project and is not part of that claim.
The port adds configurable presentation and conveniences: UI scaling, detailed level statistics, photo mode, draw-distance options and other rendering changes. Its showcase also includes an updated moveset and restored visual details. These are reasons to explore its options, not evidence that every screenshot represents the original unmodified game.
Keyboard and controller actions can be remapped in the Controls menu, with multiple layouts, two binding slots per action and shortcuts combining up to three keys. Controllers work without a separate input translation program. For a game so dependent on deliberate movement, choosing a comfortable layout before committing to a long level is worthwhile.
Windows, Linux and macOS are supported. Use the installation guide for your operating system and supply the appropriate owned TR1, TR2 or TR3 files. The combined setup keeps games in separate game directories, rather than treating their assets as one interchangeable pool.

TRX’s enhancements do not mean it is an HD texture replacement. The README explicitly says HD texture-pack support is not currently planned. Choose the project for its engine, control and presentation work, and judge each optional change on its own. The supported TR1 PC demo is also a useful installation choice when you want to try the engine without treating it as the complete trilogy.
