G1R Deluxe, also called Gen1Recomp, rebuilds the games in a hand-written Lua engine running through LÖVE2D. It imports the data, graphics and audio programs from a ROM you provide. Despite the project name, this is not a static translation of Game Boy machine code: the engine and map behavior are recreated, with music, effects and cries synthesized at runtime.
The launcher accepts eleven games, each with its own tab: Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. That list does not mean eleven equally finished recreations. Generation 2 is still under construction, and the five Game Boy Advance titles are described as beta support.
The Generation 1 ruleset is an unusually consequential choice. Faithful mode retains original quirks such as the rare miss for a nominally fully accurate move and the Focus Energy bug. Modern Clean keeps the damage formulas while correcting selected quirks, including enemy PP use and Hyper Beam recharge. Pick the behavior you want before treating an unexpected battle result as a defect.
Presentation has separate controls for color, zoom, tilt and shader effects. Performance tiers scale optional visual features without changing game logic. Game speed is another explicit player setting, so you can distinguish speeding up play from simply reducing graphical extras.

Use an accepted US English ROM revision from your own copy. The importer checks its SHA-1 against the project’s documented list; a different language, modified ROM or unsupported revision may fail even if the game name matches. After import, future launches use generated local data rather than repeatedly opening the ROM. The application includes neither ROMs nor game assets.
Arrow keys or WASD move, Z or Enter confirms, X or Backspace cancels, Escape opens Start and Tab acts as Select. A controller is supported, and Options → Controls lets you rebind the buttons. Download through the project repository or its linked official site; similarly named websites are not necessarily connected to this project.
The Online tab documents hosted battles, spectating, tournaments and trading between saves. A battle opens directly into the match, then returns to the launcher. Rooms identify the engine, version and ruleset so both participants use the same configuration, including an agreed custom cart where applicable.
The in-game Link menu is a separate local-network route. Do not confuse those two ways of connecting, or assume that every imported generation has the same completeness as the established games. For a first session, choose a supported title and matching rules before adding mods.
