The original 1995 wipEout is a racing game about steering an armed craft at speed, with separate left and right airbrakes as well as thrust. The handling asks for more than holding the accelerator: controlling the craft through a bend and deciding when to use a weapon are part of the challenge.

PhobosLab's wipEout Rewrite revisits the original PlayStation-era game with a new renderer, menus and platform layer. It retains the original game's data and racing structure while replacing substantial parts of the program around them.
The author also changed the physics calculations to accommodate variable frame times. Although the aim was to retain the feel, the development account acknowledges that behaviour can differ from the original. This is a substantial rewrite, not a claim of a perfectly identical PlayStation simulation.

The launcher has Full and Minimal downloads. Full includes the introduction and music and is listed at roughly 144 MB; Minimal omits those audiovisual extras and is listed around 11 MB. Choose based on the connection and the experience you want, rather than assuming the smaller option is a different race mode.
Use the arrows to steer, X for thrust, Z to fire and C/V for the two airbrakes. A changes the view. The launcher displays those bindings beside its fullscreen control, so you can check them before the race rather than searching through a generic browser-game guide.
The repository still labels the rewrite as work in progress. It lists missing game-end animations and environmental audio reverb, and notes collision issues at track junctions. These are concrete reasons to expect rough edges even when normal racing works.
Controller support also depends on the build: the README assigns it to the SDL2 backend, while its WebAssembly instructions use Sokol. The keyboard controls shown on the hosted page are therefore the supported starting point here; native package capabilities should not be assumed for the web build.
The creator-hosted browser page offers a roughly 144 MB full download or an 11 MB minimal download without intro and music; it does not request a local game-file import. Building the source yourself requires separate game assets.
Creator-reported · Project guideChoose the full or minimal browser download, wait for it to load, and use the displayed keyboard controls. The minimal option omits the intro and music rather than being a claim of a retail demo.
Creator-reported · Project guideThe creator provides a WASM/WebGL browser build. Exact browser-version and mobile compatibility are not established by the reviewed documentation.
Creator-reported · Project guideThe launch page shows arrow-key steering, X for thrust, Z to shoot, C/V for air brakes and A to change view. The documented Sokol WebAssembly backend does not support game controllers.
