About this version

NocturneRecomp translates the Xbox 360 executable with ReXGlue and supplies a native runtime. It is a different target from PlayStation-based Symphony of the Night ports.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

The original game: Alucard in Dracula’s castle

Symphony of the Night is a side-view action RPG built around Alucard’s journey through Dracula’s castle. Jumping, dashing and close combat carry you between its enemies and characters, giving exploration and fighting equal space in the adventure. The appeal is following the castle’s changing encounters at your own pace, with its distinctive music and illustrated environments. NocturneRecomp uses the XBLA edition; the mobile edition’s extra features are separate.

Konami · Symphony of the Night description

Start from the Xbox Live Arcade edition

NocturneRecomp is a Windows and Linux port of the Xbox Live Arcade release of Symphony of the Night. It translates that edition’s executable and supplies a native host around it. Your input is therefore a legally dumped XBLA package, not a PlayStation disc image. That edition distinction is the first thing to check when choosing among Symphony of the Night projects.

The stable release is the simplest starting point: extract its archive, launch the program and follow the game-extraction prompt. Nightly builds are available separately for newer development work. The source-build path expects a LIVE/STFS package and supports a separate title-update option.

Native settings and a visible achievements menu

Recent releases move common display choices into the game’s own settings: resolution, fullscreen, language, graphics backend and screen-size presets. F4 also opens an in-game settings overlay. The Enhanced Graphics switch now replaces the old render-scale control, so older screenshots and instructions may show an option that is no longer present.

The port adds a native achievements page, with recent fixes for Japanese glyphs and menu alignment. These are features of NocturneRecomp’s host interface; they should not be confused with a promise of Xbox network account integration.

Adjust the port through its mod manager

F1 opens the mod manager, which can browse, install, reorder, update and remove mods. A ZIP dropped onto the game window can be installed as a local mod. That gives players a route to change the host’s behavior without rebuilding the entire project.

Language and screen-size extension hooks have also been added for mod authors. Check a mod’s version against the chosen release, especially when it changes graphics settings: those APIs have evolved alongside the native menus. Start with the stable build and its standard settings before combining optional changes.
