GSRecomp translates the original ARM/Thumb code locally with gbarecomp. The maintainer describes pre-release testing and a full-game path, while retaining a known-issues list.

A wider Golden Sun with adjustable pacing
GSRecomp’s collection launcher now handles both Golden Sun and The Lost Age, using a separate supported ROM for each. This listing’s original Golden Sun is called The Broken Seal in that launcher. Its expanded view covers fields, the world map and battles, with optional color profiles and screen filters for choosing between a sharper monitor image and a more handheld-like appearance.
The port also changes how a session can be paced. Walking speed, encounter rate and battle speed are adjustable, while an optional Hard Mode strengthens enemies and is remembered per save. These are port additions, not requirements for playing the original adventure. If you want familiar balance first, leave them unchanged.
Let the launcher prepare your cartridge
Select The Broken Seal, provide your USA/Europe Golden Sun ROM and let the launcher check it. The game code is built locally on the first run and after updates. The player package includes a compiler, while Linux still needs system SDL2 and OpenGL. No GBA BIOS is needed to play.
Keep the ROMs and Saves folders when moving the installation. The latter holds both battery saves and save states. An incompatible imported emulator save is reported by the launcher, so do not assume every file bearing a save extension can be dropped in unchanged. F1 opens settings, including rebindable controls and hotkeys.
Treat widescreen and public testing separately
The maintainer describes a path through to the ending credits, but the release remains a public-testing build. A few major spell effects still stop at the old screen edge, rare pink flashes can occur and the Mars Star has a known visual problem. Those are specific limits of the new rendering rather than reasons to expect every effect to fill the wider view.
A rare post-Psynergy data-unpacking crash is caught and recovered from, but its underlying cause remains unresolved. The opening storm and battles also have crash reports. For a long RPG session, regular saves matter more than the availability of fast-forward or cheats.
