About this version

This ReXGlue-based port translates PowerPC code to C++ ahead of time. The creator calls it an early test release and requires the USA disc.

Original game
Ridge Racer 6

The Xbox 360 racer with a Windows front end

Ridge Racer 6 Recomp brings the Xbox 360 program to Windows through ahead-of-time translation and a ReXGlue runtime. Tracks, cars, music and video come from your own USA disc. The project remains an early test release, so its native executable should not be taken as a guarantee of finished compatibility.

The most immediate changes concern the view from the car: higher internal resolution, optional anti-aliasing and texture filtering, plus ultrawide output. The race HUD can remain within a 16:9 area or move toward the screen edges. Those choices let you keep familiar instrument placement even when widening the view.

Let the launcher prepare the disc once

Extract the Windows package into a writable folder, open RR6 Launcher and choose your disc ISO. The launcher checks the game and extracts roughly 6 GB of files. After that preparation it uses the extracted files rather than needing the image on every start. Its banner is also taken from your own opening movie rather than included as game artwork.

Choose the display and input settings in the launcher. Xbox and PlayStation controllers are documented through SDL, and keyboard keys are remappable. Saves are kept in Documents/rr6_recomp, which is the useful folder to preserve when moving the application or trying another release.

Treat the Linux test as a separate choice

The project also publishes an experimental Linux test build using Vulkan. Its README records a black-track rendering problem in an early Steam Deck test and later fixes with limited hardware validation. That history makes the experimental label meaningful; the Linux package is not interchangeable with a mature, proven Deck release.

On Deck, the documented route launches through Steam so its buttons are exposed as a controller. Follow the package-specific instructions and current known issues rather than transferring Windows assumptions to the handheld. The original USA disc requirement applies to both routes.
