About this version

The creator distinguishes the original 30fps game speed from a smoother interpolated display. Texture upscaling is optional; the original cartridge data is not bundled.

Arcade racing with room for a personal best

Rush 2 Recompiled brings the N64 racer to Windows while adding ways to revisit its races and stunts. Ghost runs let you compete against a recorded attempt, and the added unlock shop provides another progression option; the creator also offers a switch back to original Rush 2 unlock behavior. Choose that setting deliberately if you want a familiar return rather than a revised reward structure.

The display can be smoother without speeding the game up. The simulation retains its original 30 FPS speed while interpolation fills higher-refresh displays. Widescreen and ultrawide framing, movable HUD placement, redrawn fonts and optional texture filters are presentation choices, not a different physics rate.

Couch races and experimental online lobbies

Up to four local players can use assigned controllers or a keyboard, and two-player races can split the screen side by side. The controls screen supports rebinding buttons, triggers, sticks and keys. Rumble options extend to different feedback for crashes, scrapes and tire effects on supported hardware.

The separate online mode supports up to eight players through a host’s lobby rather than a central server. Everyone needs the same version and the required track content. Because each machine runs the race and exchanges inputs, a steady connection matters; online play is explicitly experimental.

Optional Rush imports are separate purchases and files

Your own supported USA Rush 2 ROM is the starting requirement. Supplying the supported N64 Rush 2049 ROM adds its tracks, cars, wings and arenas; the original San Francisco Rush ROM adds its own tracks and music. These extras do not arrive inside the port, and the Dreamcast import route is labeled more experimental.

Keep a backup of the application’s saves directory under LocalAppData/Rush2Recompiled. The virtual Controller Pak, extra progress data and ghosts are separate files there. Portable mode can relocate data beside the executable on the next launch, which is useful when deliberately maintaining a movable installation.
