Canonical: https://playable.wtf/games/speedbreakerproject-speedbreaker/

Project ID: project:speedbreakerproject-speedbreaker

The Xbox 360 racing game rebuilt for SteamOS, Linux and Apple platforms.

## About this version

SpeedBreaker statically translates the Xbox 360 release and documents an experimental iPhone/iPad route. Device-specific packages and setup remain separate from the original game data.

Native setup. Racing.

## The Xbox 360 version of Most Wanted

SpeedBreaker recompiles the Xbox 360 version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) into a native application. Its current play routes focus on Steam Deck and other Linux systems, Apple silicon Macs, and an experimental iPhone/iPad build. The Windows PC edition, including Black Edition, cannot supply its game data. Windows and Android ports are listed as future work.

The project keeps the game’s own 60 fps ceiling while offering higher-resolution rendering and wider views. Ultrawide displays reveal more to the sides, and taller displays can reveal extra vertical space; the HUD and rear-view mirror retain their proportions. Those changes are presentation options for this Xbox 360 conversion, not a new game edition.

## Preparing the right disc and a new career

The installer requires your own USA English Xbox 360 disc backup, supplied as an ISO, trimmed XISO or extracted folder. It verifies the required files and needs roughly 7.2 GB for the installed game. No title update is used. Other regions, Games on Demand packages and the original PC release are not accepted substitutes.

Choose the installation location during setup, particularly if using removable storage. Saves and settings are stored separately from the installed game, but deleting the application’s data folder still deletes your progress. Existing Xbox 360 saves cannot be imported, so expect to begin a new career in SpeedBreaker.

## Controls and display pacing

Gamepads support rumble and reconnection, and keyboard controls can be remapped. F1 or Back + Start opens SpeedBreaker’s settings. The experimental iOS build has touch controls for its own interface only: driving needs a controller or keyboard. A three-finger tap opens settings; it does not provide an on-screen steering layout.

On a Steam Deck OLED, use a 60 Hz display mode instead of 90 Hz to avoid the documented pacing problem. The Linux launcher runs natively, with Proton disabled for its Steam shortcut. Start at the default internal resolution, then raise it if racing stays smooth. A 30 fps option retains full game speed, while Auto can reduce the frame rate when heat or performance makes 60 unstable.

## Platforms and current limits

Linux requires an x86-64 processor with AVX2 and Vulkan 1.2 graphics. The Mac build requires Apple silicon and macOS 15 or later; it does not support Intel Macs. iPhone and iPad support is experimental, with a narrower tested device range and separate installation requirements.

The game remains capped at 60 fps, so a faster screen does not unlock a higher simulation rate. Keep the port’s settings and game brightness settings distinct when adjusting the image: the Xbox 360 display-gamma option changes the console-style output, while the original brightness control still affects the game. Updates and optional settings do not remove the need for the supported disc data.
