## Sonic games

Separate Sonic 3’s web beta from Mania’s native setup and the desktop or Android editions of Unleashed Recompiled.

- [Read Sonic games guide](https://playable.wtf/guides/sonic-game-versions/)
- [Sonic 3 in a web app](https://playable.wtf/games/sonic-3-air-web/): The official A.I.R. web beta imports a compatible ROM and offers save-file exports.
- [Unleashed on a computer](https://playable.wtf/games/hedge-dev-unleashedrecomp/): Use the native Windows/Linux installer with your supported Xbox 360 game and title update.
- [Unleashed with Android touch](https://playable.wtf/games/sansnope-unleashedrecomp-android/): This experimental fork adds editable touch controls and its own in-app file importer.
- [Mania and native mods](https://playable.wtf/games/rsdkmodding-sonic-mania-decompilation/): Use supported Mania or Plus assets with the RSDK project’s built-in mod loader.

## A Sonic 2006 project to follow

Marathon Recompiled targets the Xbox 360 version of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), but the maintainers currently label it active development and explicitly say it is not intended for public use. Support is deferred until an official release. Treat this listing as a project reference for following that work, rather than a ready-to-play recommendation.

The repository describes Windows, Linux and macOS targets. It translates the Xbox 360 program and shaders using XenonRecomp and XenosRecomp; those tools provide the route to native execution, not an indication that every planned player feature is ready.

## The aim is to preserve the original behavior

Marathon’s policy intentionally retains bugs that occur on the original hardware, apart from a few identified exceptions. That makes its goal different from a fan remake designed to overhaul Sonic 2006’s game rules or level design. A familiar quirk may be faithful behavior rather than a regression in the port.

The project asks bug reports to distinguish new failures from those original behaviors. For players waiting on the project, that policy is a useful expectation: a native version is not a promise to replace the underlying game with a redesigned one.

## What a future installation depends on

The source project requires your own Xbox 360 game files. PlayStation 3 data is incompatible because its formats require different game code. The current installer documentation also requires unmodified files and matching regions for discs and title updates. A compressed archive is not the same input as an extracted game folder.

The README describes controller-first input and editable keyboard mappings, plus separate save/configuration locations for each desktop platform. These details are development documentation, not a supported consumer setup guide yet. There is no official standalone website; the maintainers identify the repository and its Releases page as their distribution channel. Keep that source distinction when following progress.
