Canonical: https://playable.wtf/games/sansnope-unleashedrecomp-android/

Project ID: project:sansnope-unleashedrecomp-android

An experimental Android adaptation with touch and gamepad controls.

## About this version

This community fork builds on Unleashed Recompiled and adds an Android app, mod manager and driver options. The maintainer warns that performance and stability depend on the phone and GPU.

Native setup. Platformer.

## Sonic games

Separate Sonic 3’s web beta from Mania’s native setup and the desktop or Android editions of Unleashed Recompiled.

- [Sonic 3 in a web app](https://playable.wtf/games/sonic-3-air-web/): The official A.I.R. web beta imports a compatible ROM and offers save-file exports.
- [Unleashed on a computer](https://playable.wtf/games/hedge-dev-unleashedrecomp/): Use the native Windows/Linux installer with your supported Xbox 360 game and title update.
- [Mania and native mods](https://playable.wtf/games/rsdkmodding-sonic-mania-decompilation/): Use supported Mania or Plus assets with the RSDK project’s built-in mod loader.

## The original game’s changing pace

Sonic Unleashed contrasts a speedy daytime Sonic with a powerful nighttime transformation. The Android project targets that Xbox 360 adventure, so touch layout and camera choices need to suit both sides of the game. It is worth adjusting the controls for a comfortable longer session rather than judging the layout only from the launcher or opening screen.

## The Android adaptation

This is an unofficial Android adaptation of Unleashed Recompiled, bringing the Xbox 360 version of Sonic Unleashed to supported arm64 phones and handhelds. It adds a mobile installer, touch layout editor, controller support and mod management around the recompilation. It is a separate experimental community port, so desktop compatibility and performance do not automatically carry across.

The creator describes support for the full game, including normal gameplay, while warning that stability varies by phone, Android version and GPU driver. Keep separate copies of saves and original game files when trying new releases or changing storage.

## Installing without a desktop computer

You need Android 10 or newer, several gigabytes of storage and files from your own Xbox 360 copy. The app accepts a ZIP or extracted game folder and can also stage base-game, title-update and optional DLC packages for verification. A missing patched executable can be generated on the phone; a prior desktop installation is not required.

DLC can be added later without importing the whole base game again. Internal storage or a mounted SD card can hold the installation. Close and reopen the app before switching storage after a session, and leave the selected card mounted when you play. The copy operation checks the transferred files and preserves the originals.

## Touch layouts and physical controls

The on-screen layout changes with the game: a directional pad appears for menus and results, while cutscenes reduce the overlay to a skip control. Camera movement uses a swipe on the free right side of the screen or an optional virtual right stick. The launcher’s layout editor lets you reposition and resize individual buttons, which is useful when a phone’s default spacing does not suit your grip.

Bluetooth and USB controllers supported by SDL are another route. Physical input hides the touch overlay; touching the screen restores it. Mods are installed and ordered in the included manager, but desktop mods that require Windows DLLs or desktop-only code do not work here.

## Device limits and steadier play

Android version alone is not enough to judge compatibility. Development focuses on selected Qualcomm Adreno GPUs. Recent Mali devices with Vulkan 1.3 have experimental support through the system driver, while older Bifrost-generation Mali hardware is unsupported. PowerVR and Samsung Xclipse remain untested in the project’s device notes.

Start with the supplied defaults: half-resolution rendering, no anti-aliasing and motion blur off. If a session runs hot or cannot sustain its target, lower resolution or texture quality and try a 30 fps cap before adding visual mods. Driver changes can affect both correctness and speed, so keep the bundled configuration as a reference point rather than expecting a universal phone-performance setting.
