Project ID: project:puckhead73-nhl-legacy-recomp

Xbox 360 hockey translated into a native Windows application.

## About this version

The project uses ReXGlue and separates the host runtime from game content. Its setup accepts a player-owned disc image or extracted game files.

Native setup. Sports.

## A new PC runtime for the Xbox 360 edition

NHL Legacy Recomp translates the Xbox 360 game’s code into a Windows application through ReXGlue. The original game content comes from your own copy; the project supplies the host runtime and a modern Vulkan renderer. It is aimed at bringing that particular edition to PC, rather than supplying a new roster or a different NHL game.

The renderer offers FSR upscaling, CAS sharpening, optional supersampling and a live color-grading pass. Its overlay exposes performance information, display modes and monitor selection. These are useful presentation controls, but a long options list should not be mistaken for a guaranteed frame rate on every GPU.

## Check the dump before assembling the install

The builder accepts either a disc ISO or an extracted folder containing default.xex, and it can verify the dump before doing the full installation. That preliminary check matters because the recompilation targets one vanilla image: a different region, modified executable or applied title update can fail the hash validation.

After installation, launch nhllegacy.exe from the output directory. Keep the release components together; its bundled FFmpeg handles the original VP6 movies. The builder also unpacks archives into loose files, making the installation useful to people who want to inspect or replace assets from their own copy.

## Windows first, Proton as a separate route

The documented Windows requirements are 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, a Vulkan GPU, the x64 Visual C++ runtime and roughly 10 GB of free space. The project separately documents running the Windows build through Steam and Proton 11 on Linux and Steam Deck.

Follow that Linux guide for a handheld setup instead of treating the Windows release as a native Linux package. The distinction is especially helpful when deciding whether to transfer an existing prepared installation or build one from the release and your ISO.
