A deeper route back to RollerCoaster Tycoon 2.

## About this version

OpenRCT2 is an open-source reimplementation of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 for installation on your device. It is a native project, not a browser game, and needs original RCT2 or RCT Classic graphic and music files.

Native setup. Simulation.

## Build a park people want to visit

RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 combines construction with the less glamorous decisions that keep an amusement park running. Rides attract guests, but shops, facilities, staff and finances determine whether the park can support them. A successful design has to make money and keep visitors happy, so a spectacular coaster is only one part of the puzzle.

Scenarios supply objectives and deadlines; sandbox play leaves more room to build freely, including optional removal of financial restrictions. That contrast makes the game appealing both as a management challenge and as a place to spend an evening arranging paths, scenery and rides.

## More room to build, alone or together

OpenRCT2 reimplements the original engine and expands it with modern platform support, interface improvements, additional editing tools and higher limits. Its documented changes include guest and staff AI improvements and cooperative multiplayer. Players returning to an old park gain more than a different way to start the executable.

The project also brings back selected mechanics from the first RollerCoaster Tycoon, including its mountain tool and certain coaster and objective behavior. If you own the first game and its expansions, OpenRCT2 can use their files for original scenarios. Those optional imports are separate from the RCT2 data required for the main installation.

## Choose a release and connect your game files

Use the project’s platform download or launcher, then follow the installation guide for your original game data. The engine download and the graphics and music it needs are separate; keep your supported RCT2 or RCT Classic installation available during setup. A launcher is offered for Windows, macOS and Linux, while Linux users also have a documented Flatpak route.

The download site distinguishes releases from development builds. Pick deliberately, particularly when arranging a shared park with friends, and follow the matching project documentation rather than assuming every build has identical behavior. This is an installed game with its own update path.
