Project ID: project:andrewnakas-skate3-android

An Android shell for the native Skate 3 recompilation.

## About this version

Take Skate 3 to Android with this native port. Use your own game files and follow the Android setup guide before playing.

Native setup. Sports.

## Skate

Start with Skate3Recomp for desktop disc import, use the phone-specific ports for mobile installation, and reserve the browser fan game for already converted data.

- [Read Skate guide](https://playable.wtf/guides/skate-browser-vs-native-ports/)
- [Desktop disc installer](https://playable.wtf/games/skate-3-native/): A release-based ISO installer and controller input; Windows is the maintainer’s most-tested platform.
- [Prepared-data browser experiment](https://playable.wtf/games/skate-3-browser/): Connect a compatible converted copy through Game Server; the public launcher supplies no converter.
- [Skating rewrite](https://playable.wtf/games/skate-3-rust-engine/): A gamepad-led Windows experiment for tricks and maps, with unfinished original-game parity.

## The original city as a skating playground

Skate 3 combines street spots, plazas and parks with a career built around a skating team. Practicing a trick and fitting it into a longer line is as much the attraction as completing a challenge. Those are the original game’s priorities; its publisher’s online team features do not establish online service support in this Android adaptation.

## Skate’s retail systems in an Android shell

This Android project hosts an ARM64 recompilation of Skate 3, with the original skating, physics and career code and a native Vulkan scene renderer. It is different from the Rust/Bevy engine rewrite: the Android app builds on the Xbox 360 recompilation lineage, including Alex McHugh’s engine and the ReXGlue runtime.

The repository itself contains the Android activity, setup interface and platform scripts. The large game engine lives in a separate source tree. That separation matters to someone considering a source build: compiling this app shell alone does not recreate all of the engine components.

## Prepare the phone for the game data

The release APK contains no game content. In the app, choose Install from a disc image and supply your own Skate 3 Xbox 360 image and Title Update 3 through the system document picker. The installation extracts about 6 GB into the app’s directory, so allow space for both the source image and prepared data while setting up.

The documented alternative copies an already extracted game folder over a cable. That route is useful for repeated development installations, while the on-device importer avoids a manual file layout for an ordinary first setup. Neither path downloads the game for you.

## The GPU driver is part of compatibility

The app targets ARM64 and Vulkan. Its creator’s measurement device is a Galaxy S23 FE with an Adreno GPU; those results are not a performance promise for every Android handset. Shared builds also differ from a CPU-tuned development preset.

The launcher can select a compatible Mesa Turnip driver instead of the device’s default driver. Applying a driver change restarts the app because the choice lasts for the process. Leave the default alone unless troubleshooting a specific problem, and use the creator’s supported import route. This is a real platform distinction, not a reason to assume the iOS port’s graphics settings carry over unchanged.
